3HC Volunteers Are Appreciated
During National Volunteer Appreciation Week, 3HC recognizes the dedication and compassionate care that generous 3HC volunteers provide on a daily basis. Many valuable volunteers contribute unlimited hours of support. Patient support may include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, sharing music, supervising visits with pets and even massage therapy from volunteers with the necessary skills. Volunteers assist with shopping, or household chores, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to get some time away from the home. Patient support is provided in the home, in skilled care facilities and at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
One volunteer in particular exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism at 3HC, Ora Lou Crocker. Ms. Crocker has volunteered as hospice patient support since 1992. She has provided compassionate care to patients and their families by helping with emotional and physical burdens affecting end of life care. Depending upon the patient and family needs, Ms. Crocker is dependable and is available whenever necessary. One example of her selfless service was when she spent the entire night with a patient, because it was important to her that the family of the patient could rest knowing that their mother was not alone and with someone who genuinely cared for her. Ms Crocker treats each patient with kindness and dignity, a true patient advocate.
