Who Pays for Home Health Care

A unique quality about home health agencies is the need for all agency staff to be knowledgeable about eligibility requirements for reimbursement. In most parts of the country, over 99% of all home health services are paid by some third party. All third party payors have specific eligibility requirements and coverage parameters.

The reality for most patients is that without third party payment for needed services, the patient may be unable to afford these services. Thus, each caregiver must be aware not only of the patient's health care needs, but the coverage requirements of the patient's third party payor. There is no other health care setting where caregivers hold these important dual responsibilities.
