- Those classified as 10-40% disabled as a result of a service-connected disability can receive Home Health Services only for treatment of the service-connected disability.
- Those classified as 50-100% disabled as a result of a service-connected disability can receive treatment for any condition.
- Recipients of Aide and Attendant Benefits, Housebound Benefits or a VA Pension can receive services for any condition.
- Those who need Home Health Services to continue the hospital treatment of the condition for which the veteran was hospitalized.
In addition to the patient meeting one of the above criteria, the VA Benefit requires prior authorization for Home Health Services. It also requires the individual to be under the care of a physician and in need of intermittent nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy or occupational therapy services.
CHAMPUS and CHAMPVA are two additional programs under the Veterans Administration that reimburse for home health care. These programs have essentially the same eligibility requirements as VA Benefits although the program participants are civilians rather than veterans or active military personnel.
