2003 Tournament Bigger Than Ever!
Two Start Times and Perfect Weather On October 23, 2003, 3HC hosted its 9th annual golf tournament. This year the proceeds will go to the Kitty Askins Expansion Fund, the Angel Foundation, and the Indigent Patient Fund. The tournament was held at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro. Our corporate sponsors were, BB&T, Sportsman's World, and Quizno's Subs. The event was a huge success netting over $10,000.00 for these 3HC Hospice programs. With a cool but beautiful day, we were fortunate enough to have enough players that, for the first time, we had a morning and an afternoon start time!
3HC employees Jennifer Nance (l) and Janet Sage (r) greet and register the golfers as they arrive for a day of fun.
The tournament had many special events including a Million Dollar Hole-In-One and a $10,000 Putting Contest. PGA professional Clarence Rose was on hand to challenge our players to a "closest to the pin" contest. If the golfer was able to get his ball closer to the pin than Rose, the lucky golfer received a specially autographed visor by Clarence Rose himself!
Volunteers sell raffle tickets to golfers as they get ready to tee off!
After a full day of golfing, a special pasta dinner was served and tournament prizes were distributed. Prizes were awarded to the first, second and third place teams and a special "Spirit Award" was presented to the last place team. Thanks to the generosity of our local merchants, everyone who completed a registration form was awarded a door prize.
Wayne Christian Academy teen volunteers graciously helped with the tournament.
We all know what a tremendous asset Kitty Askins Hospice Center is to Eastern North Carolina. Plans are in place to expand the hospice center to offer more services and programs to the communities we serve. The Angel Foundation is a very unique program that grants wishes for adults with life threatening illnesses. The Indigent Patient Fund helps cover the cost of providing care for hospice patients and their families who are unable to do so.
Teen volunteers did their best to make the day a special one for all the golfers.
Our thanks go out to Dr. Ernest Marshall, our event chair, and the entire Golf Committee. The committee worked very hard to gain new golfers and community support for the tournament. We also are thankful for all of our volunteers who worked so hard during the tournament to make the day such a success.
