2004 Reverse Drawing & Silent Auction

Reginna Skinner3HC (Home Health & Hospice Care, Inc.) hosted its second annual reverse drawing and silent auction on February 12, 2004 at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, NC. With almost 400 people in attendance, the event was a tremendous success netting just over $28,000 for the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

As the guests walked to the main doors of the extravagent clubhouse, they were provided with a program that listed the festivities for the evening and the event’s sponsors. The evening presented a very classy feel but had a casual atmosphere with folks wearing everything from blue jeans to suits and ties.

The first festivity of the evening was the silent auction. Merchants and artists from the area generously donated a wide variety of items ranging from sporting goods, weekend getaways, and home decor. Attendees got the opportunity to inspect more than 200 items that were setup on tables throughout a private viewing room. The item that garnered the most interest and the biggest check was a University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill basketball autographed by the 2004 team. Although everyone enjoyed bidding on these items, the real excitement centered on theme baskets created and donated by various 3HC clinical offices and corporate departments. Basket themes included “Gone Fishing,“ “The Tar Heel,“ “Family Game Night,“ and “Good Italian Cooking“.

Guests sat down for an exquisite baked chicken dinner prepared by the chefs at Walnut Creek. The smell of the meal filled the room at Walnut Creek and it was obvious by looking on the faces and the empty plates of the guests that the meal did not disappoint. Along with the fantastic meal, guests enjoyed the company and laughter of friends and family and lovely music provided by pianists, Carol Murphy and Jacob Mewborn.

Finally, as dinner ended, the most anticipated event of the evening arrived -- the reverse drawing for $10,000! Tim Finan, renowned emcee for charity functions in Wayne County, announced ticket numbers for just over two hours eliminating participants one by one until only two remained. The two ticket holders chose to split the $10,000 grand prize. The lucky grand prizewinners were, Mike Farfour and J.D. Tyndall. Congratulations to the lucky winners!

Such a major event would not be possible without the help of wonderful and dedicated volunteers. We would like to extend a special thanks to the hospice volunteers, the Wayne Country Day School’s Amity Club, and our 3HC employee volunteers. This team worked incredibly hard throughout the evening and should be commended for their efforts.

3HC would also like to thank all the local businesses and merchants for their support. In particular, BB&T Insurance and Wayne Radiation Oncology participated in the event as our event's Ultimate Sponsors.

The evening was a major accomplishment and was definitely enjoyed by all. Just the fact that all proceeds will benefit the Kitty Askins Hospice Center makes the event wonderful in itself. We’ll see everyone next year!
